Larry Kirwan - On the Salt Stage Thurs April 8th at 8:30pm is Larry Kirwan.

Rock & Read is designed for arts centers, small theatres, sit-down clubs, quiet pubs and house concerts. It is based on my memoir, Green Suede Shoes, and two novels, Liverpool Fantasy and the recently published Rockin’ The Bronx; the performance combines readings from those books interspersed with relevant songs from Black 47's twelve CDs. read more

Larry Kirwan is the leader, singer/guitarist and composer for the rock group, Black 47. Black 47 has released ten CDs; a history of these recordings can be read at www.black47.com Kirwan has also recorded Kilroy Was Here and Keltic Kids as solo efforts. With the band he has appeared on all the major television shows, including Leno, Letterman and OBrien and been profiled in most major magazines and newspapers in the US. He has written eleven plays and musicals, five of which are collected in the book Mad Angels. Liverpool Fantasy, his best known play, has been produced Off-Broadway and at the Dublin Theatre Festival. He has also written a novel version of Liverpool Fantasy, a memoir Green Suede Shoes and a collection of songs and stories Livin in America. In 1995 he was named one of the top fifty most interesting New Yorkers by the NY Daily News, several places ahead of Madonna. It would appear, however, that he has lost considerable ground of late to this blonde seductress. Nonetheless, while plotting a comeuppance, he slaves away in bitter and cunning silence on Transport a musical with Thomas Keneally, a new novel Rockin The Bronx, while traversing the highways and byways of America with Black 47 in search of the perfect gig and microbrewery.

Dan Bern- Salt brings Dan Bern to Byram for an intimate evening of song...this is a super rare area appearance by Dan and will prove to be a special night for all.

frighteningly witty, thrillingly irreverent and monumentally insightful

“Dan Bern strums drop-dead gorgeous melodies like a demon with his tail on fire; and expresses his love for humankind through scabrous, literary, skeptical rhymes full of hyperarticulation and the tormented self-knowledge of the really, really smart.”
— Washington Post

“Bern makes the kind of American music that radio could use...He's a folky troubadour with a rock-androll heart and the all-too-rare skill of combining humor and intelligence. Sometimes he rocks with a Tom Petty-like heartland rumble, at others he delivers his lyrical musings with quiet acoustic backing.”
— Baltimore Sun

Dan Bern is best known for being a prolific songwriter and electric live persona who has released a dozen albums and has spent well over a decade performing everywhere from coffee shops to Carnegie Hall. Since releasing his first album in 1997, Dan Bern has amassed a strong underground following, built on endless touring and his prodigious output of songs of all shapes and sizes. Some of his best albums include 1997’s Dan Bern, 2001’s New American Language, and 2006’s Breathe, all produced all or in part by Chuck Plotkin; and 1998’s 50 Eggs, produced by Ani DiFranco. In 2007, Bern focused much of his energy into motion pictures. He used his talents and sharp wit to compose over a dozen songs for the Jake Kasdan/Judd Apatow music biopic spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. He also wrote the title song for Jonathan Demme’s documentary, Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains.

Gashouse GorillasGashouse Gorillas - "When the band is having as much fun on stage as the crowd, you know you're in for a special night!" Lou Acevedo - JSJBF Jazz & Blues Notes

The Gas House Gorillas often bring the show into the audience spurring fans to sing, dance and get wild. Cutting up with each other and the crowd, the Gorillas are more than a great band, they are great entertainers as well.

The band's repertoire encompasses a broad range of styles that include Jump Blues, Gypsy Swing, early Rock & Roll, Cajun Music and even the occasional funk groove. Artists as diverse as Wynonie Harris, Groucho Marx, Sam Cooke, Fats Waller, and Albert King all coexist in the Gorillas' musical vernacular.

The Gas House Gorillas are fearlessly uninhibited performers and a sure fire guarantee for a rippin' good time!

pie boys flatPie Boys Flat hit the NYC music scene in 2003 with their unique blend of Reggae, Blues, and Funk. Their writing shows influences ranging from Bob Marley to Jack Johnson to Sublime to Paul Simon and has melded into a form of ethnic Rhythm and Blues that sits firmly in the pocket of a style all its own. Laced with soaring three-part harmonies, their music is the manifestation of a many year friendship and collective musical intuition. Patrick Hambrick (Guitar/Vocals), Fitz Harris (Percussion/Vocals), and Jason Liles (Bass/Vocals) met in the late 1990’s at Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia, where the trio formed a bond that is now apparent in both their writing and performing.

As always, Pie Boys Flat remains steeped in rootsy, southern grooves and rich, soaring vocals so, whether a seasoned veteran or a new-found fan, make sure to catch PBF in 2008 because this explosively high-energy trio has only begun to flourish.

Jon WozniakJon Wozniak was born and raised 3.4miles from SALT in Byram, NJ. He burst onto the burgeoning Byram music scene while, still in high school at Lenape Valley, playing every open mic in a forty mile radius. Quickly realizing how fun it was to have the whole room singing along, Jon began amassing a huge repertoire of cover songs. Ten years later Jon can take your requests and have you singing along to an ever expanding catalog ranging range from classic rock (Beatles, Tom Petty, Allman's, Bob Marley), to 90's hits (Oasis, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler), to contemporary hits (Coldplay, Maroon 5, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers).

As a longtime disciple of pop music, Jon knows the songs to relax and eat by, the songs to dance and sing to, and the songs to pump fists and chug pints of McSorely's to. So stop by on a Friday night, bring a friend, request your favorite song, and sing along! .
